Can't Get Rid of Virus

I've run SpyBot, AdAware, ATF Cleaner, VundoFix, KillBox, McAfee, etc, etc, etc. I can't get rid of this virus (or whatever it is). I keep getting these annoying pop-ups trying to run .exe files from the c:\windows\temp directory. See HJT scan below. So annoying. Any advice most appreciated....

Many thanks for your reply. I have followed your recommendations except for the downloading of Panda. I have completely disabled IE from my system and am very reluctant to allow access. I recently did just that and that is when all these problems started. Is there an alternative?

Here is the log from OT Move It. The one from CCleaner is too long to post. Please advise on next steps. Many thanks.

DllUnregisterServer procedure not found in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winzwr32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winzwr32.dll NOT unregistered.

    Nice Work :)

Yes, there are Plenty of Alternatives Please try the following.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
    • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

      o Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Kaspersky won't load unless I remove McAfee Anti Virus from my system.

Hmm, Sounds Weird  , There would probably be a solution to that problem, let's try Using Another Scanner this time :smiles:

Please run a BitDefender Online Scan
    • Click I Agree to agree to the EULA.
    • Allow the ActiveX control to install when prompted.
    • Click Click here to scan to begin the scan.
    • Please refrain from using the computer until the scan is finished. This might take a while to run, but it is important that nothing else is running while you scan.
    • When the scan is finished, click on Click here to export the scan results.
    • Save the report to your desktop so you can post it in your next reply.

    Are you still there joelamountain?
  • edited March 2007
Yes, I am still here. But the Vundo trojan has embedded itself in my hard drive. It automatically disables HJT and other anti-virus programs; it also closes my web browser when I enter "Vundo removal" into the Google search bar. I don't think there's a solution other than wiping my hard drive clean and starting over.

Could you Please post a Fresh Hijackthis Logfile, there always is a solution i'm not giving up on this one ;)
  • edited March 2007
I am unable to run HJT as the virus has disabled it. When I try to run it, the program automatically shuts down. The same is true for Killbox.

    edited March 2007
Alrighty, Please try Renaming Hijackthis.exe to --> Rahina.exe And send a Fresh Logfile in your next reply ;)

I changed the file name and the program still closes seconds after I open it.

Alright Let's get rid of those nasties.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Please open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {36FC5D1E-01E1-475B-9E74-F493D56D22F6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqr.dll (file missing)
