Children's PC has suddenly become very slow

My children's pc, which is protected by Norton Internet Security 2006, has suddenly become extremely slow - having been working well up until earlier last week. I managed to obtain the attached 'Hijack This' log from it two days ago, but have been unable to get an update since. If someone could advise on whether it contains any nasties, I'd be very grateful.

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe

• Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
• Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
• Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
• Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
• Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
• At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
• Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
• Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
• DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I don't see anything malious in the log,
Lets run through a few things,

Updating Java and Clearing Cache

1. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
2. It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
   Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
3. If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
   http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

[*]After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
[*]Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
[*]There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked

[*]Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan

• Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
• A new window will open...click the Check Now button
• Enter your Country
• Enter your State/Province
• Enter your e-mail address and click send
• Select either Home User or Company
• Click the big Scan Now button
• If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
• When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
• When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Thanks for your reply, and apologies for the delay in responding. I have been more or less ok with your instructions until getting to the Panda ActiveScan - I have been unable to get this to work correctly on my children's pc.

I am not sure whether this will be helpful, but I've made another HijackThis log, obtained this morning, and reprinted below. Although I haven't seen it, I'm told that pop-ups for something called WinFixer have been appearing - I don't know if that is significant.

Not sure what has happened, but the problems of the last week or so with the computer seem to have gone - no longer is it 'slow', and it is working normally once more. Thank you for your input with regards my original message above. Hopefully this matter is now sorted and closed.
