Windows XP Pro 32 and 64

I have an Intel D 2.7 CPU sporting 2 Gigs of Ram. My question is: Can Windows XP Pro x32 utilize the duel core CPU? Or, does it require a 64 bit OS like Windows XP Pro x64?

Yes, you can use XP Pro 32bit and it will support the dual cores.

Thank you for the info. My curiosity was peaked when I used Windows XP Pro x32, I did not experience a quick environment; when I changed to XP Pro x64, finding drivers notwithstanding, my environment was really quick. I am not expecting that you would be able to explain the whys of that, I just wanted you to know from my experience.

Having said that, is there any tips on the forum that might teach a person how to best set up XP Pro x32 so that it will perform well with the Intel D?

I am considering going back to the XP Pro x32 flavor just because it will run all the software that I have. The x64 will not run 16bit programs as it seems the compatibility mode does not function in the x64 OS. 8-)

    Anyway, thanks again!

X64's kernel has far better resource management then 2000/xp. (It is based off server 2003). Also you probably didn't have an anti-virus slowing you down. (Only NOD32 and SAV10 work properly under X64.

Xp X64 is based of server 2k3 as a result the kernel has better resource management.
