Update Bios

edited April 2007 in Science & Tech
How do I update my Bios. I need to do this because I bought a new processor. I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard, and New AMD Opteron 185 Processor.

Please help me and make it a simple as possible.

Thanks

The safest way to update you BIOS is to download the version you want from the motherboard manufacturer's website, then see if it makes its own floppy disk.

Usually it will not, so do this:

    1) Make a bootable floppy disk by formating a floppy disk and also have it copy the system files.

    2) Copy the new BIOS file you downloaded along with the flashing tool for your motherboard.

    3) Boot from the floppy, run the BIOS flash program, then point it to the new BIOS you copied to the floppy disk. The program should prompt you at each step along the way.

    4) Don't turn the computer off or interrupt the process until it is finished and the program tells you it is safe to do so!

    5) After being told to reboot the computer, immediately enter the BIOS and set it to its default settings. Reboot once more and input your specific setting, set the date and time, detect your drives, etc.

If you have any doubts, ask first. Better safe than sorry. :)
