Norton Antivirus 2004 re-activation problem

edited October 2003 in Science & Tech
It appears that the latest version of Symantec's Norton Antivirus software has hit its first major hitch since its release last month. Apparently users of the software have been experiencing problems with the new activation feature. It seems that some people, after rebooting their computer about 25 times, are prompted to reactivate their software. Symantec have acknowledged the problem, which they say has only been noticed in International English and U.S English builds.

It might be worth noting, that I've been using NAV 2004 since its UK release, and have had no problems so far. But saying that, I'm not sure if I've actually rebooted 25 times since I've had it installed?!

[blockquote]In August this year, Symantec announced that it would be introducing activation for all its products, beginning with NAV 2004. Activation has to be carried out within 14 days of installation, else the software is rendered unusable. Kohlberger said the problem had been noticed both on XP Home and XP Professional. He said he was unaware whether it had surfaced on systems which had been updated with Service pack 1 or 1a.

Service pack 1a is the same as 1 apart from the fact that the Microsoft virtual machine is removed in 1a. Service pack 1 was issued in November last year. In the past there have been reports of third-party applications experiencing problems after application of service packs.
