Office 2007- Is it worth it?

Hi everyone. I thought I’d come (back :) ) to this community with this question. I’ve really not heard much about it and haven’t read any reviews at this point- in hopes to get a real-user perspective. I’ve only heard third-hand.

A few things-

We use mostly Office 2003 Professional right now. Publisher is used as much or more as anything else.

I personally think Office ’97 was Microsoft’s single greatest product. Everything since has been variations on this theme and, again personally speaking, they have been, uhm, disappointing.

So, if you know first-hand, is Office 2007 is it worth upgrading to- or is it just another slight evolutionary step up from 2003?

Please write some reasoning to your opinion if you can.

Thanks for any input.

I upgraded to Office 2007 about 1 month ago as I was able to obtain a free copy of it. The new layout of Office 2007 in Word is not for everyone, very step by step based so everyone can use all the aspects of the program. I personally do not like the new layout and have been meaning to jump back to office 2003. I guess I have just grown over the years to what office was and with 07 being a huge change it was a change I personally didn't like, while some like the new layout i know of other who feel the same way I do.

One huge item and it is very basic is the lack of a print button, MS has felt the need to remove it form all their products. Sure I still use Ctrl+P but that little icon is something I use also.

I have found the new Outlook to be somewhat useful, but overall it is the same as office 2003. As for Publisher it is really the same as 2003 with new icons and a few new options. Depending on what you use it for will depict if it is right for you to upgrade to.

I recommend you get the trial version and check it out, it is worth the testing before you spend the cash for it.

    Sledge,

Here are the steps to add the new Quick Print button to the Quick Access Tool Bar at the top left of the screen

Right Click on the Title Bar (I just put my cursor by the word "Home") then select "Customize Quick Access Tool Bar"

Make sure Customize is selected on the left, the drop down box in the center top should be on "Popular Commands" Look in the list right below for the "Quick Print" button, select it then hit Add.

    Hope this helps

    Edit:

You and add the regular "Print" button to the Quick Access Tool Bar by changing the "Popular Commands" to "All Commands" the scrolling down to the regular "Print" button.

It's taken some getting used to, but I've found I can perform certain tasks more efficiently now. I like it.

Thanks for the input, everyone. It sounds like a general user paradigm shift. I may try and download the demo before my flight this week.

Can you tell me in what areas you've noticed this in? Are the applications faster or is it just a general "feel" to the application that makes it easier for you? Both?

I know I may find out for myself soon enough, but I tend to jump to conclusions early. I'll post my thoughts- but I'd like this thread to also help with what I may look for.

    Again, thanks :) .

The application launch/load time seems similar to previous Office products, but my efficiency when formatting and making changes that used to require drilling down through menus has increased.
