My mom just got a new acer laptop computer with turion 64 x36 and a gig of mem but it has vista. the problem now is that it connects normal at 40 but the computer runs like its on 28.8 i cant get it to go faster.

also is there a way to link directly to the connection. right now I have to open the connection center or whatever and then click my connection then click connect and then finally I get the normal connection window. is there a way around that?

It's weird. I've experienced the same slowness in Linux, FreeBSD, XP, 2000, 98, ME, NT 4, 95 and 3.1. I'm not sure what causes it. Perhaps it's a bug in the TCP/IP Stack when using dial-up.

Honestly, I don't know the solution. So I can offer no positive assistance. Just my mild attempt at humor. Get off dial-up if at all possible. Here in Houston we can get DSL (albeit slow, but way faster than dial-up) for $15/mo. Considering dial-up runs around $10, even with the extra taxes on the DSL making it more like $18/mo, I still say 10x-20x the speed is worth the $8 a month.
