Spyware

I have got some spyware on my cpu and i had a virus detected by AVG. It seems to have gone when I removed MSN. I am still getting annoying webpages appear with a balloon which reads "Urgent! This needs immediate attention. Click hear to download the latest software to properly protect your computer". I downloaded to trial AVG Anti-Spyware and the report is below. Still got pages appearing. Can someone tell me how to remove this spyware.

    Try Ad-aware and Spybot (both are freeware). Just google it.

    Download HijackThis self-extracting zip version from here. Once downloaded, double click on the file & it will install into it's own, permanent folder.
    Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

    ==

    Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
    Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

    Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
    Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
    Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

    Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

    I don't believe that you have Smitfraud, but the Vundo infection.

    Please download VundoFix.exe
    to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HijackThis log.
    Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
    In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
    instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when
    VundoFix appears at reboot.

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2FB06F1F-E70A-4AC5-A591-3E0021F8A6C5} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddabx.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {67C55A8D-E808-4caa-9EA7-F77102DE0BB6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bbualqko.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9796007A-181E-4C97-99EB-7F71B8989A7B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\khffdby.dll (file missing)

    O4 - Global Startup: Bluetooth Manager.lnk = ?

    O11 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: khffdby - khffdby.dll (file missing)

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Should get it this time :). The tool I use to analyse the logs had marked the entry as good, so I missed it.

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrintDrive] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\knedmwsd.dll",setvm

    O11 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Reboot.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

    ===============

    Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

    Download CCleaner and install, then run it. It will clear out your temp folders.
    1. Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
    2. Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.
    3. Close when finished.

    Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

    Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

    Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

    Install and keep updated, AVG anti-spyware, Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D.
    Run them all on a regular basis, following the maker's recommendations.

    Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

    Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

    For XP users.
    After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
    To flush the XP system Restore Points.

    Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.

    When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
    On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

    Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

    Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

    Note that all previous restore points will be lost.

    ===============

    If you have any more problems, post back.

    Happy surfing,

    crunchie.

    Many millions of thanks. Our other pc is about to get the boot due to poor performance. It is very slow. Before I trade it in can u tell me if there is a bug in it that may be making it so slow? or should i just trade it.
