time is always wrong... DST error?

honestly i'm not sure what this is... for the most part, whenever im done with my laptop for the night, ill only put it into standby... however, ill occasianally shut it down completely or restart it for something... lately, whenever i do that, the time jumps one hour ahead... even after it's done it once already, it will continue to do it everytime windows shuts down... anybody have any idea what's going on?

Thanks

Double click the clock. Click the "Time Zone" Tab. Make sure your time zone is set correctly, then check the box that says "Automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time."

Both are correct and the problem persists

Doh! Hmmm. Are you syncing with a time server?

All the computers in my house have had the same problem... I think it may have something to do with the DST being moved? Not sure..

Has this problem been since the summer time change - if so some countries ie usa & aussie had to run an MS update patch for this problem I believe. :)

Yes, the patch has been out for quite some time, though. Do you guys (in)frequently download and install MS updates?

Apparently I can't anymore since I'm on SP1. SP2 wont work with my mobo...

I haven't been able to get the DST patch, so I unchecked the "Automatically synchronize time with Internet time server" box and set it myself.

Before I unchecked the box, it kept reverting to standard time. If your time is one hour off, I'll bet this is what's happening to you.

yes i am syncing with a time server but it will change b4 the sync

i always update my computer, very frequently

and it's not just an hour off... it continues to be pushed at one hour increments every time i shut down... for ex. lets say i shut down 3 times in one day b4 a time server update... the clock would be 3 hours ahead of what its supposed to be at

Could it be something wrong with the clock in BIOS? It's a long shot, but maybe worth a try...

This is the MS time zone edit. The file unzips to tzedit.exe.

When you run it, it will show the time zone you are part of and let you make adjustments to which day DST starts and ends, as well as how many hours the shift covers.

everything looks perfectly fine when i run it

No CMOS issues? The battery isn't dead or anything? I know it's a stretch, but I've seen a dead CMOS battery do some weird things.
  • edited April 2007
    How would i know/check that?

When you restart, hop into the BIOS. See if the time changed their first before going into Windows. Could always change the battery too. Heh.

it's windows changing the time i believe... when i restart and go into bios, the time is the same.... after windows boots up and i log in is when i notice the time is an hour ahead of what it was before

Maybe your computer is stuck in some sort of localized temporal anomaly. It could be an hour or two ahead. Time to start gambling. :)
  • edited April 2007
haha, that's the best solution i heard all day

does anyone else have ideas? cause the gambling didnt work :bigggrin:

 Let's see if your mobo computer battery is ok:)

    1. Click Start, point to Programs, Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
    2. At the command prompt, type time, and then press ENTER.
    3. Compare this time with the time that is reported by the clock on the taskbar.
    4. Type exit, and then press ENTER.

If the computer's time and the time on the clock are different, the computer's battery may be faulty, and it should be replaced.
As each mobo is different for information about how to replace the battery, refer to the documentation included with your computer.

NOTE: This will not affect the clock in your computer's CMOS.

it's the same time... no difference
