Borked My Domain Login
I took my work laptop home with me this weekend. The computer is set up on a domain, but I wanted to access some shared folders on my home workgroup. So, I changed it from the domain to my home workgroup and restarted.
While it was restarting, I thought "crap, I log into a domain." Sure enough, I can't log into the computer anymore because I forgot to create a local account, and I can't select a domain to log into anymore. I have admin access on my account, but all the good that does me when I can't get into it. I figure this is a long shot, but is there any way to get my computer back onto the domain without being able to log in? Something through a boot disk or repair console?
I'm sure the techs at work have a local admin account they can log into and fix it, but I want to be able to use my computer this weekend. Plus, when they do finally get around to fixing it, I'm sure I'll get griped out, and I don't really feel like dealing with that.

If you could use an XP install disk to get in, it would still ask you for the administrative password....which was probably set by Group Policy on the domain and you don't have that password?
It is possible to steal the registry out of the Sytem Restore files using a boot disk like Knoppix or Barts. I've done it both ways. But it would take me forever to try to explain it all, and even then I'd have to assume you knew quite a bit.
If you could re-connect to your domain you'd need the domain controller right down the pipe from you...and then you'd essentially make a new user and have to go through a lot of gymnastics to move your old user to the new user.
I think you're best choice is to wait till Monday AM. Let your IT dept log on with local admin rights and System Restore back to Friday AM. You've got two days to brace yourself for all the crap you're going to take from them. Use the time wisely Gargoyle. Sorry.
Gargoyle I'd say there's a 5% chance Kentigern's idea will get you back to Friday, but a 0% chance it will make things worse...so why not?
You cannot join the machine back to the domain without the following:
The laptop must be able to see a domain controller for the domain you wish you join/rejoin.
The laptop join operation can only work if the account credentials supplied are for a domain administrator or account operator.
Face up to what you did and they will sort out
