Insanely FAST internet speed with DSL

Does anyone themselves, or know someone that is ... for instance ... next to a dsl hub and getting insanely fast internet speeds?

I found out I know someone like this and now I am in the hunt for a hub in my neighborhood. hmmm... Anyone know what these look like? It's all underground wiring here. This person I know who has the speed has all above ground wiring, but with phone I'm not certain. I don't know what her hub looks like either, or if it's at or above ground level.

The speed shall remain a secret for now...  But just to tease you I can say testmy.net instantly loads all it's tests and says something like, "It's highly unlikely that your internet connection is faster than our maximum test of 60,000Kbps." Another test, 2wire or something like that, did show a reading. Anyone know what test I'm talking about, I seem to remember 2wire. $36.99 a month for this speed is awfully tempting...
me want! :sad2:

edit/ Is there a place I can look up where dsl hubs are? Qwest is the big boy here.

Look for a 20x16ft brick building with your local DSL providers name on a small sign on the building. I know where most of the embarq hubs are here in Jeff city.

That big? This confuses me to as to why the speed is so fast then, because I don't think such a building exists that close to the home.

I suppose they could be smaller. Maybe 16x12ft or so. But usually have some logo on them. But that also just might be this area.

    Dood,

This page at dslreports.com supposedly tells you how far you are from a CO (central office). Plug your friend's address in there too and see if they really are that close to a CO.

EDIT: I watched the last three innings of the Twins today. We let one get away....

You probably just have good phone lines and are within 4KM of your co.

edit: Google says your isp only offers a 7megabit connection that means either your reporting the wrong speed or someone at your isp screwed up and synced you at the wrong speed.

Also just a side note G.DMT adsl is limited to 8 megabits down and 1.544 megabit's up.

home lines = yes, as good as a phone line will get, probably redone 20 years ago.

neighborhood lines = unsure, 1st ring suburbs, all above ground
*However, this is old peoples' territory, "What's a conflacit conpuyar?"

Also, the isp knows about this, they themselves (atleast 1 guy from there) said this line was in a really good area. I'm hearing this 2nd hand from the homeowner. I always thought they'd cap you, but maybe I was wrong with dsl?

The speed is no joke, I DID NOT BELIEVE IT until... I tested it myself on several speed tests, AND did some general net surfing to test this. I'm quite jealous of this (at the time I was testing) 115 or so Mbps line. Unfortunately I was awwed and kind of hurried and never really got upload tests done.

Well this sucks for me! 22590 feet! Time for a new building, I know just the place, 200' down the road

And for friend, It says, "No estimate," but it looks to be less than 1600 feet 2 blocks one way, 1.5 blocks another.

DSL is supposed to be capped.

And so is Cable. I just got 6345kb down on a 6Mb down connection. I've had it up to around 12-13Mb down.

No, cable is not supposed to be capped. DOCSIS spec calls for burst speeds when the node is unsaturated; the bandwidth advertisements are "Best efforts" and may not constitute actual speed received. Fine print.

Oh so at 3 am when most people are in bed I should be able to go Fing hog wild with bandwidth? Some companies wont give a bit/sec over what they advertise. Dont tell me they dont cap it.

Comcast Speedboost? Which I think only turns on when the network (your neighborhood) is approximitely ~70% idle.
