Default Customized System Folders

edited April 2007 in Science & Tech
Hello

I am trying to restore a factory setting.

When you initially go to the Windows folder on a fresh install of Windows XP

You get a blue colored background with the outline of a computer in the bottom right corner and the following in the top right corner.

These files are hidden.

This folder contains files that keep your system working properly. You should not modify its contents.

Show the contents of this folder

I am trying to find out how to restore this initial setting after you have selected the "Show the contents of the folder".

I know that in Windows 98 there were folder customization settings in Folder.htt and Desktop.ini files, however these are not normally found in XP. They don't appear to be in the Windows or Windows system32 directories.

My System32 directory is still set to default setings. I have explored to the Syetem32 folder trying to determine what who it's configured. I've un hid system files, and went to Tools / Folder Options / View tab / and checked "Display the contents of system folders"

Anyone have any clue as to how this is actually configured.

Rob

    Hi Rob
You were on the right track by going to Tools/ Folder Options / View tab
at this screen go to section Hidden Files & Folders / Check the Do Not show hidden files and folders THEN scroll down a little further and Check the Hide protected operating systems files (recommended)

    Hope this helps :)

Tried that, but it's still showing the files. :-(

    Any other ideas?

    I've found the answer.
    1. Enter the Windows folder or System32 folder
    2. Click on Hide the contents of this folder, under the System Tasks menu on the left.
    Here is a screen shot:
