windows\system32\config\system.

edited April 2007 in Science & Tech
Hi guys,

When restarted windowsXP professional got the message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
windows\system32\config\system.

The first thing I tried to do was repair this file from my DVD drive, however the problem was it was not booting from dvd even though I changed the bios settings. DVD was the first bootable device. By the way I copied a CD from my windows XP OS saved on my hd.

Secondly, I tried to boot from windows 98 floppy tried to repair from there, but still it was not able to show me the page where I can repair it.

I even tried to copy and paste the system file from a different XP HD, but still the same thing.

When I change my HD from master to slave, I can view the contents on it. But cannot do anything when I tried to make it a master.

I tried to view the previous threads, but all suggested about booting from a CD, which was the first thing i did...

I was advised to go to Recovery Console Tool?
How to get there as I am not able to boot from my DVD rom drive?

Is there any other option that I can get, as I don't want to format my HD.
Any help regarding this would be appreciated.
