Spyware or hardware problem?

I've been using Windows Live Messenger for a while now, but it has some weird behaviour that is pretty annoying. The messenger would go into 'not responding' mode from time to time, for like 5-10 seconds before going back into 'running' status. By time to time I mean every interval of around 3-5 minutes. The thing is, none of my other applications are affected, and it only happens when I'm using the Messenger directly, as in, chatting to someone or selecting a file to send etc.

So, I'm wondering, is this a virus/spyware? I've did all kinds of scans but no results are shown. I'm guessing that my motherboard is worn out. The board's around 3 years old now. What do you think?

This has been going on ever since i upgraded to Live Messenger. Now 7.5 has the same problem too. I didn't have it in the past...

Just because HJT doesnt find anything doesnt mean there isnt some piece of spyware still there.

ihatepopups have started topic earlier and we have not found any signs of infections, that's why i'm saying this case isn't related to Malware
