Motherboard Power Connections

My "new" Abit AV8 has two power input connections on it. One of them is four-pin, and the other is the old-school twenty-pin connection.
The manual simply describes them both, but doesn't say to use them both, or to pick one, or anything!

All my power-supply supports is the twenty-pin connection, and I don't have an adapter for the four-pin. What do I do???
Can I run my system with the 20-pin only, or do I have to use them both??

    You need both.

You may be able to get a Molex (4 pin that plugs into a HDD or CD ROM) to 4-pin power adaptor from somewhere or make one yourself.
