problems with creative. can i use something else?

I just reformatted my computer and downloaded creative soundblaster live.
It is the cd that came with my computer to make the sound work.
I have had many problems with this same crap before i reformatted.
I think what the cd does is make the sound driver work or something?
im not to familiar with this kind of stuff.
but now it will not work at all. I hate creative! is there anything else i can use to make my speakers work?

    Download new drivers from www.creative.com or buy a new soundcard that's not made by creative.

    i have looked in creative.com but i dont know what to download. i mean would newer downloads work for my old soundcard? i looked all around in there and i dont know what to download???

    Is the problem that you don't know what model of SBLive! you have? http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ shows pretty much every model of the Live! series I can remember. If you don't know which kind you have, there is an "Identify your product" link above the product selection that shows how to determine exactly which model you have installed, then you can use the model number to search for drivers.
