'Gator' becomes 'Claria'

edited October 2003 in Science & Tech
Gator, the controversial advertising software and e-wallet company, has decided to rename themselves, to Claria. The move comes after the company tried to sue everyone who had the morality to call their product spyware.

In other news though, Short-Media brings to you word of a newly labelled nasty piece of software you should definately be on the look out for. Claria is its name, and we strongly recommend you don't let it get anywhere near your system.

[blockquote]Maybe you find it interesting what kind if informations Gator aka Clara is collecting, so read more.

I found the following informations in their privacy policy, which is not easy to find on their website:

-Some of the Web pages viewed
-The amount of time spent at some Web sites
-Response to GAIN Ads
-Standard web log information (excluding IP Addresses) and system settings
-What software is on the personal computer
-First name, country, city, and five digit ZIP code
-Non-personally identifiable information on Web pages and forms
-Software usage characteristics and preferences [/blockquote]
