I never played TR1, thought 2 was brilliant and the rest of the series went slowly downhill. There's a new one due for release on 25 May (UK) that might restore Lara to her former glory. It seems they are in effect remaking TR1 with the Legend engine. All the enemies and puzzles will be back in their original locations. The gameplay of the older TRs with the modern graphics of a modifed Legend engine sounds exactly what I have been waiting for. Can't wait.

I thought Legend was on the Source engine.

I've only ever played the first Croft game, and just started playing Legends. I'm only a few stages in, but I don't notice a very big difference in the game play between the two I've played, and I'm actually enjoying the story of this one, which I wasn't expecting.

I don't know, I saw an interview where they said they basically used the Legend engine but had improved it?
The first one I played was 2 and it was all puzzles, how do I get here? how can I open this door? etc. The last three seemed to have less and less puzzles. I think there was two decent ones in Legend.

A Demo for TR Anniversary is available here - http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tombraideranniversary/demo.html
It’s not too long but gives a taste of the new game. I played it and will definitely be getting it. It uses an ‘enhanced’ Legend engine which seems to have my original complaints about the control and camera clumsiness. Like, if Lara is going forward and the view is from behind her, then you press Back, she doesn’t move backwards, she spins around and runs towards you. Always found that a little frustrating. Some of the Camera angles could be better, some views get ‘stuck’ against walls etc, just like legend.
That said, it certainly has all the exploration and puzzles back. The short demo has more of this than Legend had in total. It looks beautiful and I will get used to the control system so roll on June 1st.

The control problem you describe is pretty standard for 3D games that use a joystick or game-pad to control. The character moves in the direction of the joystick movements relative to the camera. Perhaps the designers are expecting their players to use a joystick for these games. It took a little getting used to in Legends, but after awhile it didn't bother me (and it actually seemed to help out a lot on the final boss... which was a neat battle).

I'm gonna go check if I can download this new demo from steam.

All the pervious TRs (with the exception of Legend) didn't work like this. Nor did Thief, DuesX or many of the others I've played. The second Indiana Jones did as well as a few others. I like to be behind in third person unless I change the view, Shadowman is a good example, I can change the view to wherever I want and it stays there but I can still look around completely.
