Trying to share the internet....

Okay I have wireless, and I use my laptop to share the internet with my desktop (so my laptop is like my wireless adapter).
Had to do a format, and reinstall Windows XP.
I can connect to the wireless with my laptop just fine. But when I enable my connection with my desktop with sharing on (connected by a crossover wire) I get the limited or no cnnectivity, and my laptop tries to use that connection instead of the wireless as it internet source.
Anything I'm doing wrong here?

You mean you have a wireless router connected to a DSL or cable modem? And if you do have a wireless router, is there any reason you don't just plug the desktop into that?
How do you do that? Do you pull the wireless signal in, then user Internet Connection Sharing to send it back out on the wired Ethernet adapter?
If you're using ICS and your laptop tries to use the wrong adapter for the Internet, you need to run the ICS wizard again and pay close attention to which adpater is being set up as "sharing" the Internet. Microsoft has a pretty good article with a video to help you here.
Start> My Network Places>Network Connections>Create a new connection...
and follow the steps to allow your laptop to be the main source of internet... than setup your desktop to connect to that network.
i was sharing the wired one, when I should have been sharing the wireless connection (its the one with the internet)
weird thing is the wired didn't have the option to share until recently.......darn funky windows xp, is vista easy with this network stuff?
Different? Yes.
Easy? No.
