Just wanted to let everyone know that I have been experiencing some long delays when using Microsoft Update website. SVCHOST takes up 100% CPU. This can also occur if you have your system setup with Auto Update.

Here are two articles from Microsoft...

MS Article 916089

This leads you to the Hot Fix information... 927891.

Just FYI....

QCH if you weren't a member in good standing here at the SM community, we would have pointed out that you, in fact, posted in the thead you couldn't find.....just over 24 hours earlier. But we'd never embarrrass you like that...

Whew... it IS good that I'm an occasional poster here. I would hate to be brought to task and embarrassed in front of the entire world... ;D

What I SHOULD have said was that if you do a search for "svchost 100%" or derivatives of that, you would not find a recent thread dedicated to the resent problem and information about how to "fix" it.

    !!~UPDATE~!!

The "fix" will not stop SVCHOST from grabbing 100% but it does seem to lower the priority level so the computer will not stall while it scans.

I noticed that BEFORE the "fix" SVCHOST would almost kill the system while taking 100% CPU and not allow any other process CPU time. AFTER the fix, it still took 100% but it would allow other processes to jump in and the system never stalled.

Until Microsoft actually fixes the real problem, this is the only fix they have...
