Very Slow Internet! Help needed before i kill mylself
Hello all, desperate for some help if you can.
I recently changed my hard drive from a 30gig one to a 300 gig one but my virgin broadband is now slow as arseholes.Ive upgraded the ram but that wasnt it.
My Motherboard is a MSI NvidiA Nforce2-(doesnt say in the book if it supports the larger hard drive-could this be the problem?)
I did swop the old hard drive back over and the net was fine.
The only firewall ive got running is Zone Alarm but ive uninstalled that and tried the net but it was still slow.
Ive run out of ideas

If it's a new hard drive.........and everything else is the same, are you sure you have the correct drivers? I'm thinking specifically of the Network Adapter, but other drivers might also be a problem.
If the computer runs fine in all other respects, I doubt it is some incompatibility between the BIOS/mobo/hard drive. But when you swap hard drives, you are also swaping out installations of Windows (assuming here). I would look that way, and start with your drivers.
Yea the computer works fine for everything except the net.Ive been looking at drivers for my SMC ethernet/usb connector but that wasnt it.Ill have a look at other drivers then
If that's the case then I would wipe out the old drivers and install some new ones. In that order and see how things go.
Ive opened device manager and it shows all the drivers to be working fine.
Is it just your internet thats slow ?.
Run a speed test like Vintage86 said.
However your internet speed should should be the same. (Unless you have gotten infected by a virus thats using your computer in a DDOS or something. *The modems activity light would be blinking like crazy*)
Is there spyware/virus's/bloatware slowing your pc down ?
Ill have a look at this speed test thing although as i said earlier my net is quick on the old hard drive.
I havent got any virus's as far as im aware. The net was always slow from the moment i swopped hard drives
On a side note ive installed a 300 gig HD but when i go to Windows Explorer-right click- then Properties its only showing the HD as 120gig?
why would that be?
cheers for the help on that-any idea about the above problem?
Yea lots of time there's a jumper on the hard drive you need to set to get the whole 300 Gigs. I'm out of my league on that one but I think you'd have to reset the jumper, then do everything over. Don't take my word for it though, try over in the Storage thread. Somebody there will know.
will do;)
