My brother on the other side of the country is having problems with a computer. He says that it locks up or reboots all the time. What is teh first thing that he should be looking ionto to try to fix it?

Heat.
Frequent unexpected shutdown, lockup, and restart is almost always due to heat.
Tell your brother to clean the dust out of his case. If that doesn't do it, we can try some other stuff, but that will proly do it.
