basically he wanted me to find out if he can upgrade the hd at all or if he is stuck with the stock one?

if any more info is needed please let me know
i found this link from dell

Any computer made in the last 7 years can upgrade to basically any hard drive, as long as the connector on the new HDD matches the old one (SATA vs. EIDE). Be aware that you'll have to reinstall windows if you're looking to make the new hard drive the only drive in the system.

    thanks for the reply thrax

i would believe it is an eide.
i'll have to open up the case and make sure though.
arent there any compatability issues though with hd to motherboard as far as seek times or some such go?

No, no issues. :) As long as you have Windows XP Service Pack 2, or Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or better, you can buy any size EIDE drive and have it work just fine.
