Some USB hardware try to pull too much voltage than what a USB port is specced to provide. I have a headset that does this if I turn on the vibrator.

What exactly are you plugging into your USB ports?

laptop has two usb ports, one was going to a 4-port usb hub... that had mouse/keyboard reciever... other things are on/off and weren't on at any time i got the message... i've been using this setup for a month, after my expansion base usb ports decided to stop working.... i still have to get those fixed

I never had that message before, but I am curious if that USB hub has it's own power connector for it, or the capability; my bet is you need one.

    No I bought it.

Your problem is that you are drawing power from multiple devices from 1 port!!!

According to Wiki (most likely right) a port is only allowed to draw a MAX of 5.25v with 100mA to 500mA of current. With 2+ devices it is most likely drawing too much current from 1 port unless it has an external power adaptor.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usb#Power

Therein lies your problem, plain and simple.

wow, only 2.6 watts. I would have thought it could handle more than that.

mhm, thanks, it's ok now... however, the thing that strikes me as odd is the fact that it was giving me the error while i had the external power hooked up to it... after i unplugged the power to the usb hub was when the message went away

Could be a short somewhere causing the extra power draw.
