Netinfo and Shields Up Scan Results confilct

Does anyone use the NetInfo program? I have been using it for a while to do extended pings, trace routes, port scans, etc.

So, I was doing some port scanning for a client, and Netinfo reported that port 110 was open. I checked the router remotely, and it did not have 110 enabled. So I remoted into the computer, launched IE, and did a Shields Up scan. Shields Up stated that 110 was closed, in fact, it was in Stealth mode.

So I tested the same routine on a few other of this client's computers, at different physical locations. I also tested it on our office router. Same deal, in fact, our office router showed 80 open, but we are not running a webserver. (We do have remote admin on the router, but that's 8080.) But Shields Up showed both 110 and 80 closed at all these locations.

I am inclined to trust the Sheilds Up scan, because it is external and objective. I think I will run a Netinfo scan from home, and see what it says. Or, I could post my IP's and let you folks all take a run at them.....NOT :eek3:

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has ever gotten bad port scan info from Netinfo or any other app?

Cheers.

Dexter...

That's awfully weird. What if you try telnet on those ports?
