Two switches, same problem...

Tell me if this makes sense, there is a switch which was giving us some problems... basically every hour or so we would be unable to ping anything behind it, power cycling it and only it worked each time in bringing it back up. So we replaced the switch, same exact issue occurred?

What do you think?

What kind of switch is it? How many devices are plugged into it? And how many additional devices are an extension to it (ie. does it act as an uplink to more devices or reverse uplink to more devices?)

If the switch was replaced with an equivalent model/capacity switch (or smaller) then it sounds like at some point the switch is overloaded.

Is this a managed switch? Are there multiple switches in the network?

Are you running the spanning tree protocol? Try disabling it or checking if its configured correctly?

Well the problem just kinda disappeared after a while, odd... anyways, it was ORIGINALLY a Allied Telesyn switch, which someone not sure who replaced with a Linksys for some reason(we didn't know about the linksys until this problem came up), so we had them put all the cables back onto OUR switch the Allied Telesyn, and the problem stayed for a couple hours then went away.

And this is an admin switch... plugged into the internet gateway which has multiple public IP's which is handed out to various equipment including our server.
