I've noticed that one of my ide cables has a whole on it about maybe ten of those wires inward and the others do not. what is it for ?

I seem to remember something about crosstalk on the cable and isolation of signal, but I'm not sure.

    Anyone?

Some cable have a notch cut in them for cable select features. Sounds like the same sort of thing.

Chances are there's nothing wrong. If it's what we're thinking of, it's supposed to be like that. It won't hurt anything.

i remember old floppy cables having a twist, but i don't remember how many wires. that and they are a bit smaller than true ide cables.

Is the wire with the hole Red?
If so then I think that just means its an ATA66+ cable.
