an XP2400+? I have a KR7A-RAID... I was thinking the thoroughbred 2400+ (133FSB version of course). I'd read that I might be able to do it if I cut some bridges on the chip or something but has anyone tried?
Ahh bugger... not working atm (cause of Uni final year) so I don't think I can afford a mobo... guess I'm gonna have to stick it out with the slower processor for a bit longer.
ABIT USA Forum
Seems people have got the 2400+'s to work with the CX bios without hardware mods.
Looks like I'm going to upgrade in 2 weeks
Oh yes and Danball that sounds correct... a few people mention getting 2600's to work. Unfortunately I can't find an online store around here with a 2600+
I couldn't see any FSB266 ones there...
I'll have a better look later. Also not too sure about NewEgg cause I'm an Aussie without a credit card... might be a bit complicated buying from them.
However, as far as I know Newegg does only ship for the US and maybe Canada, I can only think that you would have to ask about how shipping to Austrailia works, and if they do it.
Well guys heres an update. I ended up getting the 2400+ and followed the following procedure.
1) Updated to CX bios (modded with HPT 2.34)
2) Checked to see everything was ok after bios update (had some new feature/option for onboard LAN - I'm guessing they use this as a template bios for all their boards nowadays or something).
3) Shutdown and threw the new chip in.
4) Cleared bios.
5) Booted up and set to Optimal defaults (which automatically chose CPU >2100+ which is what I'd been told to pick anyway so the bios knew that the processor was the higher mult which was comforting). I then did the standard CAS2, AGP4x etc etc settings
6) Booted up and was detected as a 2400+ processor.
Voila! And that was with no modifications and she's running perfect (@ 2GHz according to WCPUID) on a KR7A w/ CX bios, HPT2.34.

I don't remember if anyone reported success running a Tbred in one either.
You're probably out of luck
It can. I know plenty of people that have too. Get yourself a 50$ 1700+ and you are set.
Someone here knows though

Its the closest to a XP2600+, although you can run the 333FSB XP2600 at 266FSB, I did it for about a week.

I can get them for about AUS$160-180 here which is roughly US$107-120.
