v3 Radeon 9700pro volt modable?

I've tried soldering a resistor to the v3 R9700pro but it seems to make OCing impossible. With the mod in place, I can't OC the core even 10MHz over stock (versus the 50MHz increase w/out any mods).

Anyone here have a similar experience or can explain why?
