Athlon XP 2700 thinks its a 1500....

edited July 2003 in Hardware
My Athlon XP thinks it is a 1500 when my machine boots up, although its a 2700. We couldnt find anything in the BIOS relating to this. Does anyone know the problem?

System Specs:
Asus A7N8X deluxe
Ati Radeon 7500 All in wonder
Soundblaster live!
80gb WD HDD 8mb cache

Thanks in advance.

i think you can fix it in your bios... umm... theres a setting in your bios where you can select 100 133 and more, you on 100... change it to 133

I believe all a7n8x's originally set the fsb at 100. The 2700 runs with a 166 fsb. Raise it to 166 in the bios and it should be back to normal.

Dom is right I believe, my board did the same when I installed my 1700+ its a k7s5a, it was default at 100 so I changed it to 133 and it read it as a 1700+ on boot.

That's just a safety default setting. 99% of the mobo's i've had did that also.

    No need to get personal.

It really is very easy, whenever you put a new processor in a motherboard it will usually default to 100Mhz fsb and the default multiplier. Everytime I clear the CMOS my 1200 T-Bird is detected as a 900Mhz one.... :-/

I don't want to be too harsh, but this quote I heard somewhares basically sums it up:
if i got a penny everytime i saw "proc running at 1500mhz" thread I'd be fucking bill gates
