In reality, the 9500 Pro is better than the 9600 Pro. The 9500 Pro has 8 pipelines vs. the 4 that the 9600 Pro sports. At the same time the 9600 Pro is clocked higher, but not enough to make up for the lose of 4 pipelines. The key is that the 9600 Pro is cheaper to produce because it is smaller, there for ATI gave it the high number and is quickly phasing out existing 9500 Pros.

It's very do-able if you are recycleing your old case, optical drives and such. I do ask why you wouldn't want onboard sound??? It has come so far and really does better than the creative stuff (please no flameing as that isn't my intent). I am running real nice home audio connected to my onboard and am real impressed!

I'm with goat here, the onboard song with the nf2's are really good compared to the pci versions you can buy these days. So in the long run if you want to save the money from a sound card, you can put it into another upgrade.

Only go with the 1700+ if you can be sure that it is going to be a B Core.
