VIA Tech

edited June 2003 in Hardware
Saw something kind of interesting in Tom's Hardware Newsletter. They are saying that digitimes is claiming to have heard that VIA will indeed be turning over its P4 chipset technology to FIC. digitimes themselves says that VIA does not deny that they will be divesting themselves of the P4 technology but has not officially decided who they will be selling to. Looks like a deal in the making.

The other thing digitimes says is that VIA will continue to make the EPIA motherboards they are selling now. digitimes has been on-track regarding Taiwanese mfr's in the past, so I will keep an eye out for further confirmation about this.

FIC was the company producing the VIA P4 chipsets all along. No one would touch the Via P4 chipset so they had FIC OEM the mobos for them. Both companies are subsidiaries of Formosa Plastics. A giant Taiwanese company.

This is just a accounting measure disguised as a press release
