Ok just bought NF7-S ver 2.0 & WD Raptor HD. A couple of off topic questions first. Current PSU has 2 power connectors, 20 pin & 4 pin & so does the board, do I connect them both? Second there is a green & red led on the board that come on when power up, no ref in manual, what is their function? Anyway the main problem is I have the raptor on sata 1 & I am trying to do a fresh install of xp on it. I boot from cd-rom, load the latest Silicon drivers, windows continues until it comes up windows is starting. PC starts to make a siren type noise & shuts down before any hd activity takes place. I have checked all cables etc & cannot find any fault. I have also tryed the same thing with different HD on IDE 1, still same problem. It seems the OS is not recognising the HD's, sorry if its a little long but any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way all the other components were working fine prior to this.

XP 2100
520 PSU
Radeon 9700 pro
DVD Rom
CD-RW

Use both connectors for stability purposes.

Red LED = standby power (always ON)
    Green LED = PWR ON

The siren noise is caused by the HSF not spinning fast enough or not connected to FAN1.
Disable "Shutdown when CPUFAN Fail" in the 'PC Health Status' section.

What bios version are you using?

Ok I had solved the problem, but you were almost correct Eq, thanks for the other info by the way. Problem was cpu protection enabled in bios, hsu fan reading was being displayed in bios as 0 rpm, although it is spinning & was displayed on my 8rda+ correctly. Disabled it & problem solved, by the way it is the original bios, I take it this is fixed in latest bios. I will update bios asap. Thanks very much for your help Eq, have'nt seen you on the forums in a while, nice to know you still help out.

Ya, most likely your hsf is plugged into the power supply rather than your board because it needs more power than what the board can give it. Make sure you use the adapter to plug it into the power supply not the board. If you plug it into the board your hsf will not spin up at boot. Open up your case and see if the fan spins at startup. If it does spin at startup Disable Shutdown When cpu fan fail in the pc health status section. If it doesnt spin check to make sure your fan is plugged in appropriatly via the psu.

If all of the previos fails then check your heatsink to make sure the thermal pad/ thermal compoud / thermal paste is placed correctly and your heatsink is in position.
