CPU problem....

Hey guys,

Heres the deal, i was playing quake, on my system (in sig)
When suddenly my compute turns off.... and it wont turn back on. So i immediatly unplug the PSU and short it to see if it starts running, yes, the psu starts running. So i know its the mobo or cpu. I press the power switch, it comes on.... but no post, monitor stays in suspend. So i take my mom's duron out of box and pop it in. The system boots fine. I bitch a little bit in IRC then turn it back off, to put the original cpu in (to make sure it was dead). After i get it in, i turn it on.... it posts! but right after showing the cpu speed.... it turns off. I tried several times, everytime the computer turns off after showing cpu speed. So i put the duron back in. And since im tired... it was about an hour ago when this happened (its 4am now) .. i accidentally screwed my Maze2 on too tight and heard a "crack!". I knew i just cracked my mom's Duron :/ . I try to turn the computer on, no post. SIGH... so i put the original 1700+ back in and it still turns off at post. Now, im upset. I take my mom's computer into my room and plug it in. I first stick the Duron that i cracked (though i dont see any visible cracks) in, no post.... just like my system. I then stick in the 1700+ ... and it works! Except it says "unknown CPU blahblah MHz" no matter what speed i set it at. Now this is a Kr7a in my mom's computer. It shouldnt do that on a tbred 1700+. I had another kr7a in my system before i got my nf7-s, with the same CPU, and it didnt say that. So im assuming this:

A. Something happened to my 1700+ and my nf7-s doesnt want to boot because of it.
B. I cracked my Duron in the middle of all of it. Dead CPU
C. Oddly, the 1700+ works in the kr7a, but isnt read correctly because its somehow goofed up.

It seems to be working fine. And my mom wont be freaking out because i fecked her computer up as well. But what do you guys think the deal is?? I hope its only a cpu problem. Because its a lot easier to replace 2 CPUs (i'll replace this one too just because) than it is a new Nf7-s :/

Please give me some feedback
Thanks

i just got a suggestion in IRC, they seem to think it could be a bios problem with the nforce2. ;[ ;[ ;[

    update,

I flashed the Kr7a's bios.... its reading the 1700+ fine so im assuming that its the bios hosed problem on the nforce2

    What do you guys think.

    Hmm
The first thing that comes to my mind is heat?
    Whats your cpu temp?
Can you get into the BIOS?
