Go to www.pricewatch.com and click cd recorders, THEN in search box type TDK. The results for TDK come up but in item description it says TEAC. I'm after a TDK Velo 52x cd-rw. I may have to call the distributers up and say , "Whats up"

Or you could call them up and say, "Hey...I am interested in a TDK Velo 52x cd-rw. What kinda price am I looking at and are they the same as the TEAC drives?"
But I guess you should go with your gut instinct on this one.....
For public enduser sale, TEAC did stop doing CD-ROMs. They mfr only for others and sell mechs. They also sell OEMS to computer mfrs, and the OEMS trickle down to end resellers. Some of those also sell wholesale, that is how they got them.
TEAC does quality, but does not like having to do tech support direct to end users. I can get TEAC OEMs but only use to build with certain TEAC models. Those, my distributor will handle RMA for as they seldom fail in a reasonably short time.
OTOH, TDK found it did marketing and bundling software and tweaking drivers best, and did not make much profit making their own. So they private bulk contract mech mfring. They contract with people like TEAC, and sometimes Plextor.
Because OEM, software does not come with these. But full legal Nero works with them. I did not mention it to this OP as it is often a case where the software you have is OEM and will not work with another drive brand. Buying drive and software seperately would be more expensive for an end user in qty one each than buying a bundled retail pack on sale. But, the OEMs who buy them direct tend to sell bulk purchased full version Nero Express with them.

Panasonic, Technics and Matsushita are the same company, yet all of them make hi-fi components.
A lot of companys use more than one "name".
