acpi kernels and laptops??

Ive built more kernels on this laptop than I care too. Well, i should say TRYED to.
I'm looking to pick up support for my battery and other functions of my laptop. Its a Dell 1100 inspiron.
Ive built a 2.5.69 and 2.6.0 kernels with the required patches. Every build, it errors out and dies. None of the 'standard' kernels will work, that ive found. Ive tryed the redhat kernels, and the 2.6.0 test2 kernels with no luck.
Anyone have experience with this?? or possibly a compiled kernel for this beast??
