Not posting problem

edited August 2003 in Hardware
I was installing a modem into my main computer. After installation it does not post at all. I took the modem out and it still doesn't post. The fans and drives start up, but I get no beep and the monitor goes into standby mode.

So, do you think something got zapped? Motherboard?

Oh, I heard a sound while I inserted the modem in the pci slot. like a snap. If I broke the PCI slot would this kill my mobo?

and it's not the video card. i put in a video card that i know works and it still won't post

did you make sure to re-seat everything, maybe you knocked one of the cards out of place?

I took the thing apart, except the drives. that worked. This happened cuz I intalled a modem into PCI slot 3, into my KT7 mobo. guess the KT7 doesn't like to use PCI slot 3. After I got it working again I installed trhe modem again and it did the same thing. luckily for me it boooted after I took the modem out (after 2 misfires tho.) Really weird, but I know KT7's are kinda picky about the PCI slots. I just put the modem in my 2nd computer to make things easy.
