KT7A STILL won't post...

edited September 2003 in Hardware
The CPU works, the video card works, the power supply is new and works, the motherboard was sent by swordsman who had it working, the RAM works... put em all together... don't work.

What the crap?! I've tried booting it fully loaded with IDE and everything connected, I've tried booting it with just ram cpu and video... NOTHING... This makes LESS than no sense.

Please, if anyone has ANY suggestions no matter HOW crazy they are post them here.

did swordsman leave the cmos jumper in the "clear cmos" position by any chance?

Try unplugging the power cord from the psu and waiting about 15 seconds then plug back in and turn psu on and hit power button. Most of the time you should be able to hear the psu/board discharge the capacitance and that's when you plug back in and boot. Some of these boards needed the capacitance cleared every time to get a post.

Does any other cpu work in the KT7As you got?

What was swordsman's setup in which the baord was working?

If the mobo is mounted in the case then it sounds like a grounding problem. Double check that the mobo isn't shorting out on any of the mounting points.

I had sporiadic problems with this motherboard in the past. It turned out to be a bunk capacitor. Check each one very carefully to see that none of them are leaking or burst.

My setup was 512 Megs of PC150 Kingmax, 2x128+1x256, 1.2 Gig T-Bird @ stock, Gf2GTS, TB Santa Cruz, Nic, 4 port USB Card, Enermax 465 Watt P/S, and I can't think of anything else except for the burner, dvd, 2-75 GXP's in a raid 0.

But, and I will say this, the board hasn't been used in quite a while and if it doesn't fire up, I'll refund the cash, Valkyr, just say it and it's so. As everyone has said, make sure the cmos jumper is in the right place and that you've cleared it before starting your setup. That board never gave me a second's trouble after I got the TB Santa Cruz and got rid of the SB Live.

    Let me know.

Somehow many of the pieces on the board shorted out so that the CPU I tested to work no longer did and the video card also had been fried somehow. Thankfully I had an extra 1.2 just laying around (one that I had thought was previously dead) so it's running just fine now! :D yay

So which board is running, the one I sent you or the old one? Can you tell I'm confused?!?

The one you sent me... I haven't even cared to try the old one... I bet that was fried and that's why it wouldn't work.

    You get icon14.gificon14.gif

    Hello, there.

Which version is the mobo? With raid or without?

    Regards,

    Bill:)

It is nice to know that there are still other KT7s out there kicking around.
