Dual Channel Ram Question

I'm getting an Nforce2 mobo in couple days that supports dual channel ram. I currently have a stick of 256 2700 DDR, and I'm interested in getting another stick.
For the dual channeling to work, do I have to get the same exact size and clockspeed? Can I get a different size with the same clockspeed? Or can I get the same size with a different clockspeed? I'm lookin at getting a 256 @ 3500, but I don't know if the dual channel will kick in. Any help would be appreciated.

    You need the same

if you get a 3500 rated stick..it's not going to run at that speed...it will only run at the speed of how fast the cpu is at..which is 333 (2700 DDR) only advantage is it claims to be able to be overclocked to a 3500 mhz speed.

unless you run it async... and a divider for faster ram/slower proc

still, if you run your ram async, the 3500 will only run at the 2700 speed, unless you oc the 2700 stick to 3500

I think what mr.FU is getting at is that if you have 2 sticks of memory (one is DDR2700 and one is DDR3500) and you run them together at any speed higher than DDR2700, that stick will be running at an overclocked speed for that stick.

None the less, in order to run dual channel, you need 2 matching sticks for stability. It is critical enough that some ram that isn't held to close enough manufacturing tolerances will not run as a pair unless matched up through trial and error or at the factory.
