RAID 0 w/ SATA Drives v. w/ PATA Drives

edited August 2003 in Hardware
Well I know about how the new SATA drives are running up in the 150mb transfer ranges now, which outperform PATA's that run at about 133. So I'm just curious, will I see lots of real world performance increase by using two SATA drives for a RAID-0 array over two PATA drives? Or more simply, is the little extra money for SATA drives worth the performace increase over the PATA drives?

It won't give you enough to justify any extra expense. A lot of folks are getting close to 100K Atto's with 2 PATA's in RAID 0 and the best scores I have seen with 2 SATA's in RAID 0 are not much more than 100K. For less than a 20k/sec increase the cost just isn't justified.

    BTW
Raptors are the only ones I have been seeing any icreases in the scores and they are what I referanced above.
