xp repair install

piss... shyt..... damn

xp is very unstable and IE 6 will crash it.........bit rot I believe is the cause. this has happened before and I did a low level format and reinstall. i hope not to repeat that IAAP.

I ought to know this, but how do you boot up in safe mode (xp home) and can I do a repair install from safe mode?

and a repair install will nuke all of the service packs... correct?

    Actually, a repair install is:

    Boot off the CD.

    Choose NOT to open recovery console, choose to "Install Windows XP"

    It will find your existing installation, and offer the choice of "Repair Installation"

    That's your baby.

    If XP is unstable you might also take a couple minutes to run a memory tester on it. Flaky ram or bad drivers are teh two biggest reasons for flaky XP installs.

    god save the pron!!! you just need a dedicated pron server for 24 hour nonstop goodness :D . . .
