aight i need some help here...
i got a new compaq computer P-4 2.66 Ghz 120Gb 256mb DDR-Ram Pc 2700 (Single Stick) Dvd-rom Cd-RW Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 AGP8X SoundBlaster Live 5.1

I have A Compaq Case I have no clue if i should try and find the part that slids off with a window or to buy a kit and cut a hole in my current one?

I want to Upgrade my 256 Ram to atleast 512 but if i wanna later upgrade with one with a 512mb stick ill have to waste one of the 256mb stick. I dont kno if i should get a 256mb Stick or a 512mb?
Also Thing i currently have a Pc 2700 in and how can i tell if i can go higher?

Sata Drives correct me if im wrong the can transfer speed is up to 150 MBps But that would require u to have it built into your motherboard beacuse a Controller With PCI Interface can only go up to 133 MBps due to the Maximum Speed of the PCI. Newer ATA Drives can have 100-133 MBps so there would be no reason to buy a SATA controller and hard drives riight or am i missing something?
Thanx

SATA has the potential bandwidth of 150 but no SATA drive made in the world today goes much above 55 or so, give or take a smidgen. Keep that in mind. So no two channel SATA controller even raided is really gonna push sata's limits.

big differance in potential bandwidtyh and what ide drives can physicaly transfer. To saturate a normal 32bit/33mhz pci bus you would need more then two of the fastest drives made in raid-0. So thats a four channel controller also.

Just put another stick of 256mb in for now. Try getting the same stick as whats in there or pull it and put a stick of 512 in. You can sometimes combine differant makes or sizes of ram but.... if you have probs suspect the mismatched ram first. But you can very likely get a cheaper but still dependable stick of 512mb compared to a compaq upgrade of 256 so shop around.

And no you probably won't fird anyone making a replacement window ready to simply bolt onto the compaq. Your gonna have to mod that baby your self.

    Good Luck !
