Have extra HDs, is Raid 0 with all 3 of them possible?

60GB IBM GXP180
30GB Western Digital 'BB' (Caviar)
40GB Western Digital 'EB' (Protege)

HighPoint HPT 372 RAID controller

I was thinking of RAID0ing the Western Digitals on IDE0 and putting the IBM on IDE1. Is it possible to then to setup IDE0 and IDE1 together in RAID0? The total capacity drive will be 120GB.

Will using two drives on the same channel (IDE0) cause very poor performance; that is, is it worth it to setup two drives on the same channel? Thanks

Yes and no. Yes you can raid the three drives into one three drive raid-0 array but to calc the size you go

total drives times the smallest disk used when they are differant sizes so you get 90gb total.

You could get 120gb though if you raided the two WD's and left the IBM as a single drive and used software raid to raid the two but.... I don't think its a good idea.

Why not raid the two wd's and use the single 60gb for backup or something? They have the 180gxp's 60gb's on sale today at fry's for 49.99 out the door. have ya thought about adding a second 180gxp? That would be sweet.

Thanks for the quick reply Tex.. I think the two Western Digitals in Raid 0 + the IBM as a storage drive will work for me. How would you recommend I attach these drives to the HPT controller?

Make each a master on each HPT channel.
