AMD Athlon FX-53 to Emerge Before Year End?

edited November 2003 in Science & Tech
[blockquote]According to rumours, AMD plans to respond to Intel’s actual release of the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition with the launch of yet another AMD Athlon 64 FX chip with dual-channel memory controller clocked at massive 2.40GHz.

The new AMD Athlon FX-53 processor presumably destined to come out next month will be packed in 940-pin package and will require a couple of registered PC3200 DIMM modules to show its real power. At 2.40GHz, the K8 architecture featuring large caches, powerful FPU and ALU units, efficient pipeline and micro architectural optimisations as well as SSE2 technology support would allow the microprocessor to be the most powerful CPU in the desktop market this year.

The launch of such exciting CPU would generally boost AMD’s processor-based systems sales during the holiday season, I believe. The only question is whether AMD is in a position to launch this chip in commercial quantities, or will have to wait until next quarter.[/blockquote]

    Highest clocked non-OCed AMD.

They need to release it ASAP, AMD is getting pwned by the P4 EE at the moment. Amd have the chip for the competition allright, but someone need to produce a mobo worth the name and Amd needs to step up the clock fast.

I wouldn't say owned. The P4 3.2EE win some & loses some. The main thing is it's not currently available. And Dell currently is charging a Pre-Order premium of $1400 over a identically configured P4 3.2.

At these prices the P4 EE is just a curiosity, not a realistic option

DELL APPEARS to be charging through the nose for the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition – or it will be when it starts shipping the boxes that use it.

A reader notices that if you use the Dell online site to configure two PCs identically, one with a 3.20GHz Pentium 4 and the other with a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 EE, the one with the newer chip costs a staggering $1,400 more.

I agree it's still a paperlaunch. The one's i have seen results from are ES. It isn'n a cpu for mainstream either, just a little hint to Amd. The FX 53 will still require ECC and/or REG memory's though and that will keep me from buying it.
