Hi there,

im looking to purchase the lg 4040b writer , the specs are below

Writes to DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD+R, CD-RW, and CD-R media
- Compatible with DVD players
- Enables storage of up to 9.4GB (double sided) of information on a single disk
- Interface E-IDE / ATAPI
- Mounting type – horizontal & vertical
- 2MB buffer memory with buffer under run proof technology

what does "enables storage of 9.4gb (double sided) on a single disk mean? does other dvd writers enable that feature too?

also this one support all formats and it was a choice between pioneer 106 or lg 4040b

which one has better compatability with disk?

thank you

Yes othr DVD writers can also write to double sided dvd-r's. Nothing new here. Basically it means you can write to one side of the disc, take it out, flip it over and write to the other side of the dvd.

Well, since it's a Multi Drive (including DVD-RAM), a Type I, Dual sided, 9.4Gb DVD-RAM disc is probably what it meant (being the largest single disc capacity blank media there is right now... first generation DVD-RAM could only access 2.6Gb per side, max of 5.2Gb.

I personally haven't seen dual sided DVD-R's though, but if they exist it could be that also, as stated above.

They do exist and...... you can't label them. (grin) Scares me having a collection of backups on double sided DVD-r's with no labels. We are used to sticking labels to identify the contents on the flip side of dvd/cd's.
