You probably need to find out what CODEC your movie file is using. Has nothing to do with the player program - you need to install the codec to get something to play properly.
The most widely used codec for what you're probably looking for is DivX.
Hes talking about MPEG2 or svcds which you will need to find a codec to play in windows media player. If you have any dvd player software it should be able to handle it.
