Windows 2000 and EFS HELP

edited September 2003 in Science & Tech
Hi guys ;)

Going full scale security I thought ... let's encrypt the files of my company. In case someone would steal them, they would not know what to do. Haha, now my Windows 2000 Pro did not want to do it any longer. I had to reinstall it. Fortunately, I have all the Certificates to Decrypt my encrypted files. I also installed these certificates but still ... Windows tells my that they cant be decrypted. I know that these certificates are the right ones and I know that they ... well ... should work. Anyway - they don't. Does anyone have an idea what I could try? I really need the data *lol*.

Thanks for help and suggestions!

If you are using w2k's encryption you either need to be logged on as the domain administrator (but NOT a user that has been added to the administrator group) or as the same user that encrypted the files.

You should be able to get the properties of the files and undo the encryption provided you are one of the above.

I'm not sure what you are referring to when you mention "certificates".

Well with certificates I mean the files where the encryption code is saved in so that I can decrypt it again but I will try loggin on as Administrator, maybe I will be able to decrypt them.
