is Barton colder than a regular T-Bred ?

I'm a little curious about this, seeing as my t-bred is running too warm for my liking.

Also, if the Barton is colder, why?

I believe they run at the same temp. The Barton core is just a T-Bred with an extra 256Kb of L2 cache.

k... then I need to get me a new fan or something... my friends barton 2500+ is running @ 2100MHz with temps below 40 degrees celcius, while my t-bred xp2200+ is running @ 1830 MHz with 50 degrees (both @ idle).

could be a difference between boards and temp sensors

    I don't see why not.

My AMD Athlon XP2600 runs at the same temp as my AMD Duron 600@900 ran.

I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe board, revision 1.##.
My friend's got the same one, only 2.## I guess.

That means we should stand on equal footing right?

[update] Can you guys reccomend a heatsink/fan/whatever that doesn't make too much noise, yet cools my cpu well? [/update]

i like the vantec aeroflow, or you can get an slk-900 and put a medium flow 92mm fan on there, not loud at all

    man, that swiftech looks sweet...

I can imagine that with a low noise fan and a cool blue LED grill...

guess I'll just have to wait for it to come here to Norway... same with the SLK900 I guess...

I have concluded that the Bartons run cooler due to the extra surface are for heat transfer. The Bartons are larger due to the physical reguiremants of the extra cache. They should also run at the same temp if the surface area was the same size as a T'bred because they are the same chip except for the extra cache.

    ok!

    Let's see...

I can get the SLK-947U here now, but what's the difference between that and the 900 (not available here)?

The 947 was just made to be more compatible on more boards.

Wow, that's one bad MoFo! A little scarry looking, like it might eat you.

ok, I ordered it, got it and am in the process of installing it...

It's kind of embarrasing really... I managed to get the headsink fastened to the mainboard pretty ok I guess (no manual, and of course I forgot to print out before I started)...

I see I forgot the plastic protector under the mainboard... ah well, no biggie...

However, I get to the fan clips and I can't get them to work whatever the hell I do... I mean I can't even get those small wires fastened. I'm afraid of even thinking about how I am to secure the fan to the headsink with those two brackets afterwards... I'm running with the computer lying down, with a 80mm Papst 8412N2GL just resting on it :) (yes, I know that's just a 33 cubicmeter 12db fan; I'm trying to fit those wires to my 92mm smartcooler SCLFZ1592M 62 cubicmeter 22db).

anyone got any tips on how to do that cause I see the pics and whatnot, but I have no idea how they managed to do that :P

I even want a fangrill on there... possible?

    oh yeah... interested in temp?

been running prime95 for 45 minutes now with the case open and that papst fan doing what little it can: 166x11 = 1837MHz = 2500+ barton no overclocking:

Asus Probe reports back 50 celcius, dunno idle, cause I haven't tried it out much yet.
