Voltage required for OC Palamino?

I have a MSI kt7266 Pro 2-A Ver.1.0 mobo and the max cpu core voltage setting is 1.85 volt in BIOS. I am using XP 1800+ palamino. I have noticed that most people are getting good results when they are able to run cpu voltages in the 2-2.2 range . Is this pretty much required to achive high overclocks.I am able to get to 12 x141 fsb =1696 mhz but not more. I tried lower multipliers but the system would crash after 8 x 153or 154 fsb. Any thoughts .I also have 333 Mhz memory PC2700 cas 2 rated.

Well, combination of things at work.

Your motherboard can only run your memory at about 150-160 max stable, because the divider used to calculate the the pci bus speed only takes the front side bus and divides that by 4 (referred to as a 1/4 divider). Newer boards (like my KT333) can run the memory on a 1/5 divider, meaning clocks above 180mhz fsb are possible. So you've pretty much maxxed your motherboard's capabilities at 150mhz (probably because one of your PCI cards can't run very far out of the 33mhz spec).

Your voltage isn't as much of an issue, because in order to run 2+ vcore on any processor you really should have top-notch air or watercooling.

Next logical step for you, IMO, is to save up for a well-timed cpu and motherboard upgrade (and depending on the upgrade, RAM).

thanks for the info. My manual didn't have much , if anything, to say about that.

I think you gave a noble effort for what you are using. If it were me, I would save up for some new goodies including an NForce2 board and a Barton CPU with some PC3500 low latency memory. then you will be amazed at how easy overclocking can be.
