What is MaxBoost?

MaxBoost is performance-boosting driver software for Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP that is designed to complement your Maxtor ATA or SATA hard drive. The MaxBoost driver intelligently caches data in the host system RAM before it is written to and read from the Maxtor disk drive, optimizing the effective storage speed of your system in a variety of applications.

What are the minimum system requirements to use MaxBoost?

Maxtor or Quantum ATA or SATA hard drive (RAID not supported)
Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP operating system
Intel or AMD processor, 700 MHz or higher (Dual processors not supported. Hyper-Threading must be disabled.)
256 MB RAM or higher
Note: if you use Sandra or ATTO to test, you'll get weird results.

ps: they don't ask for personal info to sign-up. All you need is an email address and password.
You'll even receive a 10% OFF e-certificate from Maxtor's online store.

Check it out: it worked pretty good on a Maxtor 30GB (6E030L0) / IDE1 / NF7-S v1.2

Heard it just uses RAM-caching, and it won't benefit large file transfers.

Yeah, is like having a HD with 32MB cache.
I didn't test it but there is a setting to optimize A/V applications that might work for large file transfers.

I tried to install it on a dual P3 700 box and it barfed on me. (grin) it said minimum was 700mhz and I was only 698mhz. LMAO.

Will try and move one of the IDE's to the dual AMD box this afternoon. It looks promising. Thanks EQ.

    Ok Tex

    :p

I don't see how this is any different from normal Windows drive caching. It wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as having a drive with 32MB on board.

Tex, they say it doesn't work on dual CPU systems according to the quote in my post.

    Cheers!
